When we asked our 23.1 contributors if they wanted to feature anything on our blog, we had no idea what was coming. Megan Callahan, the author of “Pigeon Language,” sent us this superb pigeon-forward comic. Descriptive text follows image.

Hand-drawn comic strip by Megan Callahan.

Image Description

Four-panel comic strip drawn in colored pencil, featuring three talking pigeons in Montreal.

Panel 1

[One pigeon pecks at crumbs while the other two look at each other, google-eyed]

Pigeon 1: Did you hear? Rat’s flown the coop!

Panel 2

[All three pigeons look at each other]

Pigeon 2: Tabarmouette! Elle a quitté le métro?

Pigeon 1: The crows say she shot out like lightning—bam!

Pigeon 3: I don’t believe it!

Panel 3

[Pigeon 2 flaps its wings above the others]

Pigeon 2: Ma plume! C’est un miracle!

Pigeon 3: But-the crows lie through their beaks.

Panel 4

[Street scene, buildings in background, with sun peeking out behind them. A man in a baseball cap sits on the curb feeding the three pigeons. More pigeons scuttle about down the street.]

Pigeon 1: Yes…but think about it. No bird can live forever without sun or sky.
