1 Minute Read Time

from Hong Kong Sonnets
Meet me at the back of the library
by the nonfiction that has yet to be banned.
I’ll wear white, white like the orchids that stand
by the bathroom window in a weary
Tsuen Wan apartment, lan fa the very
flower I’m named after, white like the flower planted
on our red flag, and isn’t it ironic that we planned
to hate it when the time came, spiting it in theory.
Meet me at the back of the Bad Books Stack
if the halls haven’t been flooded yet
and you can still find me even if my dress
is layered in orange dust. No wisecracks
about pepper spray or the just-straightened barrette
in my hair when I greet you—promise.
