is the author of thirteen books of poetry, including Practical Gods (2001), New and Selected Poems (1974–2004), Callings (2010), and Night School (2017), all from Penguin Books. A winner of the Pulitzer Prize, he taught for many years at the State University of New York and in the Warren Wilson Writing Program.
